Europe 17 Part 1: A380, Dubai, and Munich

I’m traveling again! This time we are going to 5 countries in Europe – Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Croatia. What made me excited is that this is my first time flying A380, with Emirates! It is interesting to see what does the #1 airline in the world look like, as well as to experience how the biggest commercial plane ride feels like.

The A380

I’m flying in economy, which is configured in 3-4-3 seats. Boarding started one hour before departure, which was very early, but I figured this plane could carry 500+ passengers so it will definitely take some time.

The legroom was very spacious for an economy class seat.

Max was excited to go on a journey! Note: Max is actually a travel pillow. You can buy it at Changi Airport Terminal 4. Also note the humongous in flight entertainment screen.

I’m stuck with these three for the next 2 weeks…

The take off experience was different than your usual single decker plane. It didn’t take a steep angle to take off. Also the plane doesn’t really budge in turbulence, maybe because it’s just so big.

Dubai

Fast forward to Dubai, where we transit for 4 hours, I tried the highly regarded Lounge@B at Dubai International Airport. It is located near gate B26, on second level, inside a restaurant named Cadiz Tapas Bar. Actually the restaurant is doubled as lounge, or the other way round… Anyway Priority Pass holders have a free entry.

I asked the staff for a shower access, and they have it, even though it is 5 minute walk away. You’re actually taken to Dubai International Hotel’s gym facility. It’s nice to take a shower after 7 hour flight.

Munich

Fast forward to Munich.. upon arriving at the airport after the long immigration queue! (I’m honestly surprised at this, isn’t Germany one of the most efficient countries in the world?), we bought a day ticket for S-bahn and took the metro to our hotel, located in Hackerbrucke station (just a station away from Hauptbahnhof). Our hotel is Meininger Hotel, a no frills hotel with spartan beds, enough for a night’s sleep.

We spent the rest of the day strolling around in Marienplatz, and ate dinner in the lively Hofbrauhaus. Looking forward to more Europe experience!

See you in Vienna soon!
